Bessinger's Receives Top Honor
from National Barbecue News
CHARLESTON, S.C. -Bessinger's Barbeque, a renowned Charleston
restaurant celebrating its 60th anniversary of serving up mouth-watering
barbeque, has been named number one barbeque restaurant by National
Barbecue News, a monthly publication that is dedicated to the
sport and recreation of barbecue.
Michael Bessinger, co-owner of the famed Charleston restaurant,
submitted their barbeque sauce in a sauce contest and instead
was rewarded the prestigious honor of being named overall best
restaurant. "We're so proud to be celebrating 60 years of great
barbeque and great customers in the Lowcountry, and this is the
best birthday present we could ask for," said Bessinger.
National Barbecue News, based in Douglas, Ga. aims to introduce
people to barbecue and also keep the barbecue enthusiast informed
as to changes and happenings in the barbecue world.
A Charleston tradition since 1946, Bessinger's Barbeque, 1602
Savannah Highway, serves Southern-style barbeque, sandwiches and
sides made with the highest quality ingredients. The restaurant,
in its third generation of ownership by the Bessinger family,
offers both a buffet-style restaurant and a more traditional "good
food fast" setting. A favorite of locals and tourists alike, Bessinger's
is known for its doughnut-style onion rings and golden barbeque
sauce, both given rave reviews by Southern Living magazine. For
